  • Its head is an IPS officer.
  • It is under the MHA.
  • It is also responsible for collection of intelligence in border areas.
  • It is used to garner intelligence from within India and also execute counter-intelligence and counter-terrorism tasks.
  • It is the main coordinating agency regarding counter-terrorism. It coordinates with various states’ police all over the country.
