Jaipur, the Pinkcity, is the capital city of Rajasthan. One of the first planned city of the world, Jaipur is popular for its forts, wide roads, Choupars (Squares), Choukadies (Sectors), Havelies and street markets. This largest city of Rajasthan was founded by Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II, the rural of Amber in 1727. Today Jaipur is the 12th biggest city of India in term of population. 

The city was planned by Bengali architect Vidyadhar Bhattacharya. Old city is surrounded by a parkota (wall). There are many darwajas (Gates) which connect old city with new. Main gates are Chandpole, Surajpole, Tripolia, Sanganeri gate, Ajmeri gate and Jorawar Singh gate. City is planned in a peculiar grid system. Streets are laid out in nine chokadies. Each chokadi has small streets crossing each other at 90 degree angle. 

Old city has many places of tourist interest like Jantar mantar( Observatory), Hawa mahal, City Palace, Sarga Suli, Govind Dev temple. First residence of king- Nahargarh is situated on top of a hill adjacent to city. Amer or Amber fort, the ancestor capital is also very popular among tourists. 

Jaipur is well connected with Delhi by air, train and bus routes. Today Jaipur is one of the biggest business center of north India.

Jaipur has International Airport in southern part of city. There are two terminals at  Jaipur Airport: Terminal 1, for international flight and Terminal 2, for domestic flights. Airlines operating from this airport are : Jet Airways, Kingfisher Airlines, Go Air, Air India, Spice Jet, Indigo, Air Arabia and Oman Air. From Jaipur flights are available for Dubai, Sharjah, Muscat, Mumbai, New Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Chandigarh, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Pune, Jammu, Srinagar and Guwahati.

Jaipur station deals with 88 BG & 22 MG trains and 35,000 passengers in a day. 20 trains starts and 20 trains ends their journey in Jaipur. 73 trains pass through this station. Road Transport
Jaipur is we connected with Delhi, Agra and Ajmer with highways. National Highway 8 and 11 passes through the city. Rajasthan State Road Transport Corporation (RSRTC) is official transport facilitator of the state. It runs Volvo, Air conditioned, Delux, Express and ordinary buses to neighboring states and within the state of Rajasthan. Besides  RSRTC, many private companies also provides bus services to various cities. The most popular way of reaching from Delhi is  journey by car. It takes 4 hr. to travel from Delhi to Jaipur by car. Car rental services in Delhi  provides chauffeur driven cars to Jaipur.

Markets
Like other older cities of the country, in Jaipur also you can enjoy shopping in  both traditional and modern markets. Located within the parkota (old city wall) are the beautiful but crowded markets. The architecture is unique in  these markets. Every shop have same texture, same outer design and similar sign boards. Gardens
Construction of picturesque gardens has been a tradition of Jaipur since its foundation. According to the annual report on the administration of the Jaipur state, there was 50 gardens in Jaipur in 1940s. Some important gardens were- Jai Niwas garden, Dhuleshwar bagh, Gulab bagh, Kanota bagh, Uniyara garden, Diggi bagh, Golechha garden etc. Many of these garden have now converted in to colonies. Besides- there are some garden palaces like- Sisodia Rani ka bagh, Vidyadhar bagh, Ram bagh, Ram Niwas garden, Kesar kyari. Some garden  developed in recent time by state government or by private trusts. These includes Kanak Vrindavan, KC Kulish smriti Van, Central park, Ashok Vihar, Jhalana park, Jal Dhara, Musical Fountain(Jawahar Circle) etc.
